Evelyn Brodersen Hooge

May 1, 1936 – August 17, 2022

Evelyn Brodersen Hooge was born May 1, 1936 in El Reno, OK, and grew up on a farm in Okarche, Oklahoma. Although her parents were loving, they believed a woman’s place was in the home and opted to send Evelyn’s brother to further his education while Evelyn stayed home. As soon as she graduated from Okarche Highschool on May 25, 1954, Evelyn saved what she could and left her family home in pursuit of a life of her own.

Evelyn relocated to Oklahoma City and eventually worked full-time as Director of Purchasing/Materials Management for Oklahoma Department of Corrections while putting herself through college. She received a Bachelor of Science degree and later a Master of Liberal Arts degree from Oklahoma City University. She received the OCU Departmental Academic Award and an award for being Outstanding Senior, while there.

Later, Evelyn worked as Director of Purchasing/Materials Management at Jane Phillips Hospital, and Integris Health. She was awarded Leadership Awards from Baptist Regional Health Center and Integris Health. Evelyn’s volunteer activities included being a Board Member of the Enid Arts and Humanities Council, National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, Board Member of the Oklahoma Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Foundation, and numerous committees at St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church.

Evelyn had an adventurous spirit. She enjoyed music and travel and had a love for the outdoors and for animals. We believe that Evelyn’s education contributed to her ability to enjoy what she loved. It was Evelyn’s desire that others with similar qualities and characteristics to her own would have the opportunity to go to college and to gain degrees just as she did.
